The base material of hot rolled sheet is the semi-finished product slab of different sizes, which is produced in the continuous steel casting plant. Slabs are heated to the temperature required for forming – to 1240-1270 °C – before being rolled to sheets in two pusher-type gas-reheating furnaces with sliding rails appropriate for this. Slabs are rolled to sheet bars – having the width of 24-36 mm – on a reversing mill between one vertical roll and one horizontal roll, i.e. on a two-high mill stand.

The Coil-box placed before the continuous mill ensures the constant temperature of the strips and continuous feeding into the rolling mill, coiling independently of the length of the strip. Thus the weight of coils can reach even 25 tonnes.

Strip cropping optimizes the manufacturing output, which is ensured by cropping flying shears. Stand VI and gauge control equipment installed in 1992 for the finishing mill applicable for the rolling of a strip with the width of 1540 mm and having five – quarto stands (2 working rolls and 2 back-up rolls) made rolling possible in the thinner range of width increasing the dimensional accuracy of products.

Rolled wide strips with the width of 1.2-18 mm are coiled by a coiler with a maximum capacity of 30 tonnes. One third of the hot rolled coils are given to DWA DUNAFERR-Voest Alpine Hideghengermű Kft. (DWA DUNAFERR-Voest Alpine Cold Strip Mill Ltd.) for cold rolling.

Wide strips are distributed in the form of sheet, slit coil (custom slitting) or wide strip with plain or patterned surface finish.
