2010 The Year of Quality While last year attention even greater than regular was paid on safety and health at work in everyday life of the company, this year the field of quality was brought into focus at the 60-year-old ISD DUNAFERR Zrt. Responding to the challenges of buyer’s steel market and the continuous change of customer demands the company management called this year the Year of Quality. Several programs will be organized up to the end of December in order to continue to firm the quality-conscious approach in company managers’ and employees’ thinking. Besides it remains a basic aim also in the future to improve the quality of products and processes and at the same time to increase customer satisfaction. |
FINISHED ON SCHEDULE – Throat stopper change on Blast Furnace # 1 An investment that is very important from the point of view of effective and safe technological operation was performed recently at the Ironworks of ISD DUNAFERR Zrt.: the throat stopper of the Blast Furnace # 1 was changed. |
ISD Dunaferr outperformed the commitments undertaken in privatisation agreement ISD Dunaferr Zrt. had already outperformed the investment commitments by the end of past year, and even surpassed employment, regional development commitments as well as personnel-type expenditures and working environment commitments. Figures for H1 2009 show that ISD Dunaferr, despite global economic and financial crisis and credit crunch, have treated the fulfilment of commitments undertaken in privatisation agreement as priority. |
Investment commitments pro-rata fulfilled After audit of investors’ commitments Dunaferr-transaction is nearing to its closure – stated in the report issued by Hungarian State Holding Company (MNV Zrt.). Chief executive officer of MNV Zrt. Mr. Miklós Kamarás informed National Asset Management Council that " investors’ commitments set forth in privatisation agreement concluded with DUNAFERR had been audited. It can be stated that fulfilment of commitments in H1 2009 was outperformed pro-rata by EUR 5 Million, and the number of employees was 1500 persons more than the employment level specified in the agreement. A work committee will be set up, which will be in charge of preparing the closure of share sale and investment agreement."

Ltd., Dunaferr Vasas Trade Union Association and Dunaferr Youth Organisation In order to reduce the effects of the global financial and steel industrial crisis and to maintain the operation at the company group, ISD Dunaferr Co. Ltd. prepared an action plan that will be executed step by step. Beyond reduction of production and operation related costs and reschedule of investments by making priorities, it was necessary to limit social benefits for half a year and postpone or reschedule the payment of other benefits, which are more favourable than the obligatory payments regulated by the Labour Code. As a result of difficult negotiation rounds a necessary compromise agreement was reached between the interest representation organisations and the employer. |
Action plan at ISD DUNAFERR Zrt. Global financial market crisis caused economic slump world-wide affecting all sectors of the economy. Economic development slowed down, private consumption dropped and government investments were also cut back. All these affected the companies of production sector including steel industry as well. Slump in demand of processing industry entailed the decline in steel prices. As the result of financial and steel market crises, companies reacted by cutting down on production. A Change of Scale in ISD Dunaferr On Wednesday, 18 June the ceremonial inauguration of the new equipment under Phase I of the Cold Rolling Mill project of ISD Dunaferr Zrt. took place. Special guest of the ceremony was Mr. Ferenc Gyurcsány, prime minister of Hungary who, after the ceremony, carried on negotiations with Mr. Sergei Taruta, president of the Board of Directors of the Corporation ‘Industrial Union of Donbass’, president of the Supervisory Board of ISD Dunaferr Zrt., and also with the managers of the company at Dunaújváros. The event was attended by Mr. Dmitro Tkach, ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary, and Mr. András Bársony, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Hungary to Ukraine as well. |

Legal Integration of Dunaferr Subsidiaries Concluded The transformation of Dunaferr has come to a turning point, which will lead to the establishment of a large company with transparent and unified operation. On 30 June 2007, the legal integration of the Company Group’s subsidiaries, during which nine member companies merged into Dunaferr Zrt., came to an end. Through the merger, a total of 2000 employees became part of the Dunaferr Zrt. staff. The next step in the integration process will be the shift to a new employment structure and the integration of certain activities of the subsidiaries. |

THE ENVIRONMENT REHABILITATION PROGRAM OF DUNAFERR MAKES A GOOD PROGRESS The environment rehabilitation program of DUNAFERR Zrt. started in May last year makes a good progress, in the frame of which the company is purifying the ground and ground water of the area of Dunaferr-DBK Kokszoló Kft. (Dunaferr-DBK Coking Ltd.) from the benzene pollution produced during the former production processes. During the 10 months elapsed from the beginning of the program the water purifying system required for the purifying of ground water has been established, by the help of which the professionals and subcontractors of the company have purified over 2100 m3 so far from the 33 thousand m3 of ground water to be treated. Significant progress has been made also in the field of ground purification, 15 thousand m3 of ground has been transported and eliminated from almost 79 thousand m3 of ground polluted by benzene. It is a curiosity that the ground and ground water purification implemented from almost HUF 1 billion, which is implemented by DUNAFERR Zrt. from a subsidy of almost HUF 1 billion gained from the Regional Development Fund of the European Union, is taking place in totally environment protecting way with a method of biological treatment. |
DUNAFERR: RECORD INVESTMENTS IN RECORD TIME Dunaferr Zrt. will start the greatest investment project of its semi-centenary history in 2007. The domestic steel company - which is one of the largest company in Hungary and had consolidated revenues of more than HUF 300 billion – is planning to engage in an investment project of approximately HUF 44,6 billion this year connected with processed products at the area of the Company Group. This sum covers only investments aiming at increasing capacity and expanding operations, and also improving quality, but does not include the development of energy supply infrastructure. |
Closing of prequalification procedure |
Environmental rehabilitation program for one billion HUF Dunaferr Zrt. will realize the most significant environmental rehabilitation program since its foundation by a nearly one billion HUF investment. They will complete a soil and groundwater remedy program at the area of Dunaferr–DBK Kokszoló Kft. by using the resources won at a European Regional Development Fund tender. In course of the program, removing pollution substances will be performed by biological methods, in an environmentally friendly way; the program has started recently and will continue until the 30th of September 2008. After completing the recently started environmental remedy program, Dunaferr Zrt. will continue the environmental rehabilitation of the company by using own resources. This was the topic of the press conference held on Thursday in Budapest. |
BLAST FURNACE REVAMP COMPLETED ON TIME Following a 48-day reconstruction period, the most important investment of the year, the revamp of Blast Furnace No. I was completed at Dunaferr Zrt. Inauguration of the renewed production plant took place on the 4th of September 11.00 in course of a celebration program in Dunaújváros. By realisation of the rebuilding – based on the present production level – pig iron supply and serving the verticum will be guaranteed also for the period of the next 6 years at the Dunaferr Zrt. |
Coking
Battery No. 3 is working with its full capacity Dunaferr’s Coking Battery No. 3 is working with its full capacity again. By the implementation of the whole investment the 65 chambers of Coking Battery No. 3 which were reconstructed in two phases provides the production of 830-850 thousand tons of dry quenched coke annually. The amount produced by this way can cover the total furnace-coke supply of DUNAFERR Zrt.’s blast furnaces. By this Dunaferr made great strides towards coke production providing a long term condition of integrated steel production. The total amount of coke that can be produced in Coking Batteries No. 1 and 3 may exceed 1 million tons according to the total capacity before 2000. |

Heating
of Coking Block No. 3 has started Dunaferr’s Coking Block No. 3 is going to operate with its full capacity as of next March. Part of the Coking Block that was reconstructed in the first phase has been operating again since 2003, and heating of the part of the Block that was reconstructed in the second phase started on 20th December this year. By the implementation of the investment the 65 chambers of Coking Block No. 3 which were reconstructed in two phases will provide the production of some 830-850 thousand tons of dry quenched coke annually. |

Chief Executive at Dunaferr The meeting of the Board of Directors of DUNAFERR Rt. was held in Budapest, the agenda of which featured, inter alia, proposals concerning the operation of the company. The managing body also decided upon personnel issues, accepted the resignation of Chief Executive Sushil Trikha and appointed Valery Naumenko, a member of the Board of Directors, for the fulfilment of the tasks of Chief Executive until the next General Meeting. The former Chief Executive Sushil Trikha will continue to remain a member of the Board of Directors and has been requested by the owners to coordinate the investments of the DONBASS Industry Association in the Ukraine and in Central-Eastern-Europe. |

CCM in Alchevsk Within an international cooperation, as a part of the general revamp project at Alchevsk Iron & Steel Works (AMK) falling under the sphere of interest of Industrial Union of Donbass (IUD) continuous casting machine for billets and the ladle-furnace unit for secondary steel treatment were put in operation on 22 nd August 2005. |

Péter Hónig is finishing his position as CEO with mutual consent, as it is emerging from the official statement of The Board of Directors meeting held on 5 th April 2005. The decision has been acknowledged by the Board Members and proposed Sushil Trikha as the new leader, who sees the promotion of international integration within DUNAFERR Donbass-Duferco Group as one of his most important obligations. |

Malév Rt. held an Extraordinary General Assembly on 11 February 2005, where the shareholders of Malév elected the Members of the Board of Directors, among them Péter Hónig, CEO of DUNAFERR Rt. too. A 7.1% raising of personal basic wages will be realized from the effective date of 1 January 2005 for all the companies of DUNAFERR Company Group. |
Works
in the Coking Plant go on DUNAFERR and its Ukrainian partner, Azovimpex Ltd. agreed on the reconstruction of the 2 nd half of Coking Block No. 3. The block can operate with its full capacity from Q4 2005 by the implementation of the investment, owing to which DUNAFERR do not have to buy coke, or even it can appear on the market as a distributor. |
