An investment that is very important from the point of view of effective and safe technological operation was performed recently at the Ironworks of ISD DUNAFERR Zrt.: the throat stopper of the Blast Furnace # 1 was changed.
The throat stopper is one of the key elements of the pig iron production technology at the Ironworks, the raw materials are charged through it, it separates the inside of the blast furnace from the outside environment and it also has a pressure compensating function.
In former decades the structure had to be changed in every one-one and a half year, however the lifetime can be extended for a longer and longer period of time due to product development. The throat stopper removed this time has been operated for 38 months at the blast furnace, and during this time almost 3.3 million tons of ore and flux, as well as 1.1 million tons of coke were charged through the structure into the Blast Furnace # 1.
The change of the structure and related tasks were performed by the own specialists of the Ironworks and involving external companies during the work finished last week that was the part of the planned general overhaul program. The overall refractory lining of the main runner of the blast furnace was changed, as well as the damaged tuyére connections were also changed on the tuyére level. The main units of the built-in new throat stopper were produced in the Ukraine, auxiliary elements were produced by ISD DUNAFERR Zrt.
The investment of the value of almost HUF 280 million will ensure the operation of the charging system of the blast furnace, so technological safety for a further period of three years.
